Solution Focused Coaching

SFCB Coaching is described in an article Solution-Focused Cognitive–Behavioral Coaching for Sustainable High Performance And Circumventing Stress, Fatigue, And Burnout by Dr Anthony Grant (University of Sydney, 2017). Dr Grant reported SFCB Coaching as a useful method of enhancing both individual performance and wellbeing in high demand workplaces, highlighting the potential to act as a preventative mechanism that can reduce the probability of stress-related fatigue and burnout. The guiding framework of the coaching is the “Performance / Well-Being Matrix” (see below), which helps the coach to assess and assist you towards a space of Sustainable High Performance (Flourishing). This matrix is a useful way of considering these two dimensions in a workplace.

The Solution Focused approach is a well-established, evidence-based technique, which assists a person to identify and develop his or her strengths and resources toward the goal of finding solutions to presenting problems.

Cognitive Behavioural strategies focus on how our perceptions of, or spontaneous thoughts about situations influence our emotional and behavioral (and often physiological) reactions. Cognitive Behavioural techniques are tools of self-management and behaviour change, which are employed in SFCB Coaching to assist a person to make and sustain the key changes required to improve his or her well-being and performance.
